Under Oak Pod at Wonton Park Camping – A Quiet Glamping Retreat in the Devon Countryside

Under Oak Pod
Under Oak Pod

When we first built Under Oak Pod here at Wonton Park Camping, the idea was simple really — to create somewhere peaceful where people could slow down for a few days and enjoy the countryside properly.

Living and working on the farm, we know how special this part of South Devon can be. Early morning mist over the fields, buzzards circling overhead, hares running across the grass at dusk, and those quiet evenings where all you can hear is birdsong and the crackle of the fire pit. We wanted to give guests the chance to experience that side of Devon whilst still enjoying a few comforts along the way.

So if you are searching for glamping in Devon, a romantic glamping retreat, or a peaceful hot tub break in South Devon, Under Oak Pod offers exactly that — somewhere cosy, private and surrounded by nature.

Tucked away at the end of our small camping field, within our farm setting near Totnes, the pod sits in its own space looking out across the surrounding countryside. It feels wonderfully rural, but you're still close to Dartmoor, the South Hams beaches and all the best places to explore in South Devon.

One of the things guests seem to love most is how quickly they relax here. There is something about arriving, unpacking your bags and sitting out on the decking with a drink while the evening sun drops behind the hills. Life slows down very quickly.

The large decking area was an important part of the build because we wanted people to spend as much time outside as possible. It is perfect for alfresco dining, morning coffees or simply sitting back and watching the wildlife. Deer are often spotted in the nearby fields, especially early in the morning, and we regularly see rabbits and hares around the farm. If you are lucky, you might even catch sight of buzzards soaring above the valley while you soak in the hot tub.

Depending on the time of year, you will often be able to sit out on the decking and watch our sheep and lambs grazing quietly in the neighbouring fields too, which many guests say becomes one of their favourite parts of staying here. In spring especially, seeing lambs playing in the fields while enjoying a morning coffee or relaxing in the hot tub really gives you that proper Devon farm stay experience.

The hot tub has become a real favourite with guests staying at our luxury glamping pod in Devon. After a day exploring Dartmoor or walking the South West Coast Path, there is nothing better than coming back, lighting the fire pit and relaxing in the warm water under the stars. Because we are out in the countryside, the skies here can be incredibly clear on a good night.

We wanted Under Oak Pod to feel cosy in every season too. In summer, guests throw open the doors and enjoy long evenings outside cooking on the fire pit and watching the sunset. In autumn and winter, it becomes more of a warm countryside hideaway — ideal for couples looking for a quiet romantic glamping break in Devon.

Being based at Wonton Park Camping also means you get the best of both worlds. You have the peaceful feel of a farm stay, but you are still within easy reach of some of Devon’s best places to visit - without having to negotiate winding devon lanes! Dartmoor National Park is just up the road for hiking and walking, while the South Hams coastline offers beautiful beaches, coastal villages and plenty of fantastic pubs and cafés.

Totnes is nearby too, which many of our guests enjoy for its independent shops, riverside walks and relaxed atmosphere.

A lot of people searching for:

  • glamping pods Devon

  • luxury glamping South Devon

  • romantic breaks Devon

  • couples glamping Devon

  • countryside glamping retreat

  • glamping near Dartmoor

are really looking for somewhere peaceful and genuine rather than a busy holiday park. That is very much what we try to offer here.

Under Oak Pod is not about crowds or packed entertainment schedules. It is about quiet mornings, fresh air, wildlife, starry skies and enjoying the simple things — whether that is cooking outside on the fire pit, relaxing in the hot tub after a long walk, or sitting on the decking with a glass of wine listening to the owls at night.

We built it to be somewhere we would want to stay ourselves, and we hope when you arrive, you feel right at home here too!
